Cataract Surgery is available at all Optegra Eye Hospitals but have you considered “upgrading” to Clarivu? Cataract surgery involves replacing the natural lens which has become cloudy with a clear lens. However, Clarivu is cataract surgery with a difference. Instead of a clear lens being implanted Clarivu replaces the eye’s natural lens with a new and permanent technically advanced Intra Ocular Lens (IOL). As with a cataract procedure the new lens gives clear sight, but Clarivu has the additional bonus of correcting the eye’s focusing power which would have previously been provided by spectacles or contact lenses.
How much does Cataract Surgery cost?
The cost very much depends on the type of treatment you are having as each treatment is individually tailored to each patient, however as a guide Cataract Treatment is £2,495 per eye (monofocal lens). You will be told of the cost for your individual treatment when you have your consultation. The initial consultation for medical eye conditions is £195 but for refractive procedures, which includes Clarivu, the initial consultation is free.

Covered by medical insurance?
Clarivu is an elective procedure and therefore not covered by private medical insurance. However, if you are having a cataract procedure and would like to ‘upgrade’ to Clarivu, your insurer may cover the cataract cost. Each insurer is different however, so it is important to speak with them before commencing your treatment. For more details, please contact us or call 0800 368 4848.
Payment terms
Optegra accepts payment from all major debit or credit cards except for American Express and Diners Club. Unfortunately we are unable to accept cash.
Payment is required at least 5 days before your surgery day, unless you are upgrading from a cataract procedure and your private medical insurance covers this care. If you use your private medical insurance, please be sure to give the authorisation code to the Optegra team prior to your surgery date.
If your insurer agrees to pay the whole cost of your treatment, we will send our invoice to them in order that they can pay us directly. However, if your insurer is only paying for part of your treatment, we will send you an invoice for the difference between the cost of your treatment and your insurer’s contribution.
